Jinan University Admission – Direct Application (Before June 30,2023) (Guide)

Jinan University welcomes applications for undergraduate admission from overseas Chinese and international students, including those of Chinese origin, from now to June 30, 2023 for enrollment in 2023. Please read the Undergraduate Program Admission Prospectus for Overseas Chinese and International Students2023carefully. Here is a guide to the application.


Application Procedure




Required Documents

Please upload all your application documents as required to the system (https://lxlz.jnu.edu.cn) except application form. All e-copies of the documents should be validand visible.


For Overseas Chinese Applicants

(1)Application FormApplication form signed by the applicant.

(2)Passport copiesPassport copies of the applicant and his/her parent who has overseas Chinese identity, including passport information page, visa page and all entrance/exit stamps. Please make sure all the entrance/exit stamps are provided. Copies of previous passports are also required if some entrance/exit stamps are from them.

(3)ID Card of the People's Republic of ChinaID card copies of the applicant and his/her parent who already has overseas Chinese identity. (If available, provide both front and back).

(4)Residence PermitLong-term residence permit or permanent residence permit copies of the applicant and his/her parent who already has the overseas Chinese identity. (If available, provide both front and back).

(5)Parent-Applicant IdentificationProof of legal relationship between the applicant and his/her parent, who already has the overseas Chinese identity, such as birth certificate, household register booklet and parent-child notification certificate – notarized after April 1,2022.

(6)Verification of Residency Right



(7)Record of Entry and ExitOfficial entry and exit record of the applicant and his/her parent, who already has the overseas Chinese identity, including entry and exit dates, and place and duration of stay.

(8)High School DiplomaandTranscriptsHigh school graduation certificate and transcripts, including grades from all years.

(9)Language Proficiency CertificateHSK, IELTS, TOEFL, etc. (Results should be from exams taken within two years of application.)

(10)Personal StatementIncluding a self-introduction, past study experience and study plan in China.

(11)Recommendation LettersTwo recommendation letters from JNU overseas admission agencies, a respected member of an overseas Chinese community organization or the students high school.


For international students of Chinese origin and other international students

(1)Application FormApplication form signed by the applicant.

(2)Passport copiesCopies of the applicant’s and parents’ passports. (Must include information page. If the applicant or his/her parent was already within the border of China, he/she should provide latest valid Chinese visa, and all entrance/exit stamps.)

(3)Parent-Applicant IdentificationProof of legal relationship between the applicant and his/her parents, such as birth certificate, household register booklet and parent-child notification certificate – notarized after April 1,2022.

(4)High School DiplomaandTranscriptsHigh school diploma and transcripts, including grades from all years.

(5)Language Proficiency CertificateHSK, IELTS, TOEFL, etc. (Results should be from exams taken within two years of application).

(6)Personal statementIncluding a self-introduction, past study experience and study plan in China.

(7)Recommendation LettersTwo recommendation letters from JNU overseas admission agencies, a respected member of an overseas Chinese community organization, or the student’s high school.


Note:

1. Students from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan who have taken exams in IB, IGCSE, A-Level or graduated from overseas high school, may follow the application guide above.

2. For applicants who have Hong Kong citizenship and graduated from a local Hong Kong high school or completed an associate degree, higher diploma program, or had HKDSE result within two years, etc. Please follow the Undergraduate Program Admission Prospectus for Hong Kong Students (2023) to apply from July 19 to 25, 2023.

3. Overseas Chinese applicants and his/her parent who already has the overseas Chinese identity, should both meet the residency time requirements of the country of residence, calculated as follows:

(1) The residency time of the applicant must meet one of the following conditions

Obtained long-term or permanent residency in the country of residence. The actual cumulative time in the country of residence shall not be less than 540 days in two consecutive natural years (i.e., from Jan. 1 of a certain year to Dec. 31 of the following year–for example, Jan. 1, 2020, to Dec.31, 2021) and within two years before application should also not be less than 540 days (i.e. from April 1, 2021, to March 31, 2023).

If the applicant has not obtained long-term or permanent residency in the country of residence but has obtained temporary residency for five consecutive years, the actual cumulative time in the country of residence should not be less than 900 days in five consecutive natural years (i.e., from Jan. 1 of a certain year to Dec. 31 of the fifth year –for example, Jan. 1, 2018, to Dec.31, 2022) and not less than 900 days in five years before application (i.e., from April 1, 2018, to March 31, 2023).

(2) The residency time of the applicant’s parent who already has overseas Chinese identity must meet one of the following conditions:

Obtained long-term or permanent residency in the country of residence, with an actual cumulative residency of no less than 540 days in the country of residence in two consecutive natural years (i.e., from Jan. 1 of one year to Dec. 31 of the following year–for example, Jan. 1, 2020, to Dec.31, 2021).

If the applicant’s parent who already has overseas Chinese identity has not obtained long-term or permanent residency in the country of residence but has obtained temporary residency for five consecutive years, with an actual cumulative residency of no less than 900 days in the country of residence in five consecutive natural years (i.e., from Jan. 1 of a certain year to Dec. 31 of the fifth year –for example, Jan. 1, 2018, to Dec.31, 2022).

4. Application fee: RMB 500

5. All application documents provided by any overseas institutions should be certified by the Chinese embassy or consulate in the applicant’s country of residence and must be translated into Chinese if it is in another language.

6. How to pay application fees and submit documents

(1)Applicants registered with JNU overseas admission agency

For applicants who registered with a JNU overseas admission agency, please complete the application procedures according to the agency’s requirements and submit all hard copies of all required documents to the agency. The agency will mail to JNU undergraduate admissions office.

(2)Self-registering applicants

If the applicant’s country of residence has no JNU admissions agency, please follow the guidance on the application website to finish your online application and pay the application fee. Compress application documents into a ZIP file and send them to Jinan University’s official email: osqsh@jnu.edu.cn. The email subject line should be your actual registration number (2023200XXXX) + XX Overseas Chinese, or International Student from (country or place of residence) + applicant’s full name.

e. Applicant’s and parents’ Residence Permit

f. Applicant’s and parents’ right of abode certificate and the length of residence-related documents (which should be all certified by Chinese embassy or consulate in their country of residence)

g. Both applicant’s and parents’ entrance/exit records

h. High school transcripts

i. High school diploma

j. Language proficiency

k. Personal statement

l. Recommendation letters

A Document of more than one page with contents on both sides should be scanned continuously and submitted as one PDF file.

Do not copy the contents of your documents directly into the email, they should be attached to the email.

When you email the documents above, all e-copies should be valid and visible; your application may be declined if any documents are missing or not genuine. The hard copies of the documents such as passports, birth certificate, household register booklet, residence permits and, diplomas, etc., and the original copies of all other application materials, which mentioned above are both requested to mail to Undergraduate Admissions Office of Jinan University (mail address:Room 404, Administration Office Building, 601 Huangpu Avenue West, Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province, China, post code: 510632; contact number: 86-20-85220130). The admissions office will verify the rest of the original documents after registration.
